“I Want to Compete for a Championship”
When asked when he absolutely knew he would be spending the next several years playing football at Oregon, 5 Star DL recruit Arik Armstead told Oregon Duck Football News on Sunday night it was last Friday, the day after he met with Oregon head coach Chip Kelly on his home visit. “I knew the very next day,” said Armstead. “I was happy and pleased the way he recruited me and where they saw me fitting in”.
And Armstead will be fitting in quite nicely too. According to many scouting services, Arik Armstead ( 6’8 285lbs / Elk Grove, CA.) is one of the best defensive lineman in the country coming out of high school and could very well find playing time on the Duck defensive line as a true freshman.
Armstead made his college announcement Sunday afternoon at The House Christian Church in front of his family, friends and more than 200 parishioners who gathered to worship and also see their hometown hero make his college choice. When making his announcement, Armstead discussed each of the six colleges ( Caps ) that were laid in front of him, however when asked Armstead said his choice only came down to two universities. “It was between Oregon and Washington,” said Armstead. “My family talked me through the pros and cons, but when it came down to it, it was my decision. I just liked the sports marketing program at Oregon and their association with Nike. At some point I’d like to get a job at Nike.” Continue reading
