Oregon safety Brian Jackson, along with other Duck players certainly let it be known they were happy with the selection of Mark Helfrich as their new leader and coach.
Jackson was all smiles Sunday afternoon when the official announcement was made by Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens.
“We knew it was going to be Coach Helfrich” said Jackson after Sunday’s announcement in Autzen Stadium.
“We expected it to be,…and it is him and that’s a great deal for us as a team to get someone you expect to take over,…and that makes it so much easier to make that transition.”
An easy transition was the catch phrase of the day.
Would Mullens select someone within the current coaching staff to make the transition after Chip Kelly’s departure seamless?
“We gathered a lot of input, and fortunately for us it all pointed to one person,” Mullens said. “And he happened to live right here in the same zip code.”
Mullens let it be known he was extremely cognizant of how valuable the current culture is within the Oregon football program, a primary attribute of former head coach Chip Kelly.
“They’re different personalities, different people, but our focus is on the process, and they both have very clear visions of what they want,” said Mullens when asked about the contrasts between Kelly and his new head coach.
“They have very high standards, and they can sell that vision, and they can make the difficult decisions to make sure we get to the end of that process. …Helfrich has a clear vision” explained Mullens.
“He’s shown the ability to make difficult decisions” he continued. ”And that’s what we want — somebody who really wants to be the caretaker of this program, and make sure we keep moving forward.”
Jackson echo’s that very sentiment.
“I don’t know how we would have made it without him” said Jackson referring to his new head coach. “We knew that was the guy we wanted.”

Rob Mullens just “Won the Day.”
It was absolutely the way to go for the ducks. Helf will keep the same practice schedules, run, run, run. Some days with pads and some without, I hope they get a good defensive line coach and I’m sure they will get one that will buy into what the ducks are doing and maybe within the hockey substitutions framework, have a few wrinkles of his own. I’m excited for the kids. I don’t believe that recruiting will be hurt at all. Go Ducks! Lets run with this as far as it will take us. Still keep winning the day!
