Chip Kelly and his ( 10-0 / 7-0 ) Oregon Ducks continued their game preparations for the ( 8-2 / 6-1 ) Stanford Cardinal on Tuesday.
The Ducks left the Moshofsky Center just before 11 am in full pads as they do each Tuesday.
With all of the reported injuries to the Ducks defense, members of the media had their eyes focused on the team as they left the facility to gain any new information on Kelly’s band of wounded warriors.
Both Kenjon Barner and Marcus Mariota confirmed the injuries they sustained at Cal were minor with no residual after affects. As for Nick Aliotti’s defense, DT Isaac Remington walked out of the Moshofsky Center in his pads without a walking boot and seemed healthy. Dion Jordan was a no show at practice, ( at least to the media ), and there’s no official word on whether he’ll be ready to play on Saturday.
There’s also no official word on Ricky Heimuli, Taylor Hart, Troy Hill, Dior Mathis and Wade Keliikipi. There is speculation though that Jordan, Hart, Mathis and Heimuli will dress and be available to play.
At Tuesday’s press briefing, Kelly discussed facing the extremely physical front seven of the Cardinal and his “next man in” philosophy which revolved around the Ducks current depth issues on defense.
Kelly once again deflected all injury questions, however he did emphasize the value of practice and game repetitions for those younger players who are now being counted on to step up and perform.
“We think our style of practice allows us to get guys more reps” Kelly explained.
When referring to other programs, Kelly shared why his approach has been beneficial to his teams success.
“You always hear about the one’s got a lot of reps but the two’s didn’t get a lot” said Kelly.
“We think with how we structure practice and what we do from an efficiency stand point, that we can maximize guys getting quality reps in practice and we hope if we get put in situations where guys have to play that we’ve gotten them enough snaps in a practice situation.”
