Oregon’s long time defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti had a grin from ear to ear after Thursday’s 35-17 Fiesta Bowl win over Kansas State.

And why shouldn’t he?

His young defensive unit held the Wildcats to just 283 total yards – 132 of those on the ground while also limiting their Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Collin Klein to just 30 yards rushing.

When asked after the game what grade he’d give his squad, Aliotti paused thoughtfully and said “An A plus”.    Why an A plus,…Aliotti said his team gave he and his position coaches extra credit which helped propel the Ducks to the victory against Kansas State.

Always one to provide interesting and sometimes provocative sound bites in his post game press conferences, Thursday was no different.

Aliotti said his team played their tails off in what was probably their best defensive effort of the season.   And it certainly couldn’t have happened at a better time as Oregon won another BCS bowl against a top 5 team from a power conference.

Aliotti praised his players and coaching staff and also discussed head coach Chip Kelly and what he’s meant to Oregon football.
