With just over three weeks remaining until No. 4 Oregon takes the field for an actual football game, much of the news coming out of Ducks camp revolves around their game preparations for Kansas State,….and recruiting!

Saturday afternoon in Dallas, Texas, Oregon prized recruit Dontre Wilson ( 5’10 – 180 lbs – 4 Star Rating ) helped lead his DeSoto Eagles ( 14-0 ) to a Class 5-A Division 1 Regional final win over 2011 state champion Southlake Carroll.

The 49-45 win over the Carroll Dragons sets up a state semi-final matchup next Friday with the Allen Eagles ( 13-1 ) at SMU’s Ford Stadium.

Wilson, who leads his No. 1 ( nationally ) ranked DeSoto Eagles, has rushed for 1,867 yards and 36 touchdowns on the season.      As a receiver, Wilson also has 852 yards with 8 scores.

Oregon recruit ( RB ) Dontre Wilson scores one of his two touchdowns Saturday in a Texas 5A Division 1 playoff win over Southlake Carroll

In Saturday’s narrow last second win over Southlake Carroll, Wilson showed why Chip Kelly and running backs coach Gary Campbell covet the young recruit.

Wilson scored twice in the playoff win.

His first, a second half 28 yard run up the middle that showed power and speed as he shed tacklers and found the end zone on sheer will to keep his team close.

On his second score, Wilson caught a short pass and raced 76 yards to the end zone that brought the stadium crowd to their feet and again kept DeSota within striking distance and ultimately helped them get the win.

After the game, Oregon Duck Football News had the opportunity to speak with Wilson about his choice to play his college football at Oregon and why he felt Kelly’s up-tempo offense was the perfect fit for his skill set.

“We pretty much run the same offense here” said Wilson. “When I get there I’ll already be equipped and everything.”

Wilson explained it’s also the way the running backs in Kelly’s offense are the primary focus to the scheme and how that scheme provides a great opportunity to reach the next level.

“The way they get the running backs the ball” said Wilson. “The running back is the main person in their offense and the last couple of years they’ve gone to the NFL. They have two right now that are on their way. I just think if I go there I can carry on their legacy.”

Besides his decision to play football at Oregon, Wilson also discussed his personal relationship with Kelly and running backs coach Gary Campbell,…his thoughts about leaving Texas for Eugene,…and provides a special message for Duck fans.
