CRISTOBAL DISCUSSES THE CHALLENGE OF PLAYING ON THE ROAD – “You’ve gotta pack your toughness, pack your energy, you’ve gotta pack your discipline, you have to pack your Autzen”

There’s no mincing words when it comes to Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal.

In order to win on the road, for most teams, there’s a pretty traditional blueprint. However, with Cristobal he has a very specific formula which is certainly gaining traction and paying off.

When the No. 11 Ducks hit the road this weekend, they’ll be facing a myriad of challenges when it comes to the ( 1-0 ) Cougars who looked to be a top tier team in their win over Oregon State.

Besides the Coug’s, the Ducks will also be up against the outdoor elements of possible snow and bitter cold in Pullman. Yes, this time of year it gets cold in Eugene, but the cold on the palouse is something completely different.

“I thought we were changing that approach” explained Cristobal when asked about his early road losses after taking the Oregon job.

“Heading into ’18’ ( 2018 ),…to do a better job on the road, and we slightly improved it. And in the past,…last year, we got better. Still not where we want to be.

Playing on the road is a different mentality,…it’s completely different. You’ve gotta pack it all. You’ve got to pack your toughness,…you’ve got to pack your energy,…you’ve got to pack your discipline, your resiliency. You’ve got to pack Autzen in that bag,….you’ve got to pack it all. And you’ve got to be ready to bring it because you need to cut out every single ounce of distraction,…everyone,…and everything.

I think we’re getting a better understanding of that. We’re certainly working on it and emphasizing it night and day. It has to look a certain way when you go on the road. It’s a business trip.”
