EARLY NATIONAL SIGNING DAY A HUGE SUCCESS FOR OREGON – Cristobal and Staff Sign 4th Best Class in the Country

When this Wednesday finally comes to a close, Oregon football will have undoubtedly signed its best recruiting class in school history.

Today, December 16th, began the early signing period for the Class of 2021 and with it came a total of 20 new signees for the Ducks and head coach Mario Cristbal.

Per Rivals, Oregon signed the No. 1 class in the Pac-12, and the No. 4 ranked class nationally.

“Overall, just an awesome, awesome National Signing Day and still some more room to get an even bigger class” proclaimed Cristobal when he met the media Wednesday afternoon via Zoom.

“Our guys are doing a great job this year and the fact that we’re adding this kind of talent to upgrade and elevate the standards is awesome.”

Pinpointing a single position group where Cristobal and the Ducks had their most success is arguably the wide receiver position. The Ducks landed three incredibly talented pass catchers who all were listed as 4’star recruits.

“We thought those guys were critical to our operation” said Cristobal.

“When you look at being able to go into the State of Mississippi and get a guy like Isaiah Brevard ( 6’4 – 200 lbs ), the best receiver in the state. You look at the rest of the guys,…guys like Dont’e Thornton ( 6’5 – 185 lbs ), I mean the best in the northeast. You’re looking at three guys that are arguably the best in the country at what they do.”

And you certainly need a quarterback to get the ball to these talented receivers and the Ducks got themselves a good one.

Ty Thompson, a 6’4 215 lb talent from Gilbert, Arizona signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday securing the first ever 5’star quarterback to sign with the University of Oregon.

“We always felt he was the best one in the country,…hands down, he can do it all” explained Cristobal.

“And he has the make-up to match. He has the DNA, made of the right stuff,…raised the right way. Incredible family,…had a chance to spend a couple of days with them while they were here before the pandemic hit. Inside and out, he is just a true champion, a winner,…a field general and a relentless worker.”
