NEW OREGON HEAD COACH DAN LANNING TO BE INTRODUCED ON MONDAY – “I am honored and humbled to be selected to lead one of the premier programs in the nation at the University of Oregon”

The University of Oregon will make it official on Monday.

Former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning accepted the head football coach position in Eugene on Saturday and his hire has certainly made a splash nationally.

Lanning, along with his family, arrived in Eugene on Sunday via private jet and took a tour of the football facilities, and also met with his new team.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected to lead one of the premier programs in the nation at the University of Oregon,” Lanning said in a written statement.

“I want to personally thank President (Michael) Schill, the board of trustees, athletic director Rob Mullen, and Mr. and Mrs. Knight for their trust in me. I’m excited to roll up our sleeves and get to work with our players in the pursuit of championships.

“It is clear there is a vision and alignment within the entire Duck nation. We are staged for success and look forward to building on the strong foundation that currently exists in Eugene. Our goal is to win championships and develop our players both on and off the field.”

Lanning has led the Georgia defense for the last three years as its defensive coordinator.

His defensive schemes and style have gained national attention throughout college football this season, not just because of their aggressive nature and unique schemes, but also because the UGA defense as a whole propelled the Bulldogs into the CFP Final Four with a strong chance to win the National Championship.

Lanning will officially accept the position on Monday and be introduced as the Ducks 35th head football coach at 2:00 pm inside the Hatfield Dowlin Complex.

ODFN will have reaction from the hiring and provide the video of his introductory press conference.

More to come this afternoon.
