Now we know what a complete game from the Oregon offense looks like.
The Ducks rushed for seven touchdowns and racked up over 300 yards on the ground en route to a dominating 49-22 win over Arizona Saturday night in Tucson.
With the win, Oregon is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Wildcats fell to 3-3.
Now the Ducks can enjoy the upcoming bye week on a high note and they have extra time to prepare for an undefeated UCLA team that will travel into Autzen Stadium October 22.
The Bruins improved to 6-0 with their 42-32 win over Utah.
UCLA will also have a bye week next week and with two of the top teams in the Pac-12 facing each other, one has to think it will be an attractive landing spot for ESPN College Gameday.
But that wouldn’t have been an option if the Ducks didn’t take care of business, which they did.
And boy, did they.
Bo Nix was 20-of-25 passing for 265 yards. He also rushed for 70 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Noah Whittington, Jordan James, Bucky Irving, and Moliki Matavao each had one touchdown.
It was Whittington’s 55-yard score late in the first quarter that put Oregon on the scoreboard.
After he made one cut to the left, Whittington found himself in the secondary and he outran the Wildcats’ defenders.
Nix led the Ducks on two more scoring drives in the second quarter where he scored his first rushing touchdown and Matavao made it 21-3 on a nice end-around play from the 3-yard line.
It was more of the same in the second half as Oregon wound up scoring on five straight possessions to make it 49-13 in the middle of the third quarter.
While the offense was doing its thing, the Duck defense was able to hold an explosive Arizona offense in check. Quarterback Jayden de Laura came into the game averaging 326 yards in the air, but on this night, he had just 246 yards, one touchdown, and an interception.
