Making practice hard is what makes players great.
And to become great, you must practice at a high level consistently.
That was Dan Lanning’s mantra after the Duck’s fourth fall camp practice on Saturday at the Hatfield Dowlin Complex.
“If I want to be good at doing something I have to do something,….but not just doing, I have to do it hard” explained Lanning.
“It takes a level of intensity, so that’s what we’re looking for on the field.”
And you can tell Lanning means business.
After practice, he joined the media scrum with a tattered and gruff voice suggesting he had been fully invested in coaching his players to the extreme.
It’s go time, and Lanning understands there’s a lot of work to get accomplished before the Ducks take on Portland State at home on Saturday, September 2nd.
“Just continue to grow and get better,” said Lanning when asked about these next few weeks of practice.
“We’re not picking units yet. We’re not quite to that point. We’re still trying to evaluate where guys fit. And we want again, to play as many guys as possible if we can,…so trying to figure out who’s above the line and who’s below the line, and then if they’re below the line can we get them above the line.”
