OREGON TRENDING UPWARD SAYS CRISTOBAL- “I see a team that’s just really determined to elevate things”

After just five practices of this new fall camp, Oregon head football coach Mario Cristobal says he likes what he’s seeing so far.

“What I’ve learned about our team,…things that we thought were there already,…toughness, resiliency, very talented, very young” said Cristobal on Wednesday from the Hatfield Dowlin Complex.

“We’re re-teaching everything,…our coaches, our team leaders, our older guys. Just nothing is taken for granted. It’s a re-start button situation every single day. The focus, the emphasis,…the definition of culture and leadership is at the forefront.”

With so much change that occurred over the past eight months, it’s safe to say Cristobal and his staff weren’t exactly sure what would happen when they reconvened to play football last week.

Would players be ready to dive into practice full steam ahead physically and mentally? Would there be any lingering effects of the pandemic relating to his teams focus and maturity?

All questions the staff really couldn’t answer.

At least until this week.

“More than anything I see a team that’s just really determined to elevate things” explained Cristobal when asked about his team.

“To eliminate any type of entitlement. To put all 19 accomplishments behind us because there’s a lot more like they say,…there’s more meat on the bone. Very forward thinking group,…and one that we will continue to challenge.

“They’re a great bunch to be around. They’re as fun, as enthused, as energetic, as a group I’ve ever been around” – Mario Cristobal
