In any sport, you want to be playing your best when the season winds to a close.
That momentum leads to wins which leads to championships.
It’s the same in fall camp.
The Ducks are coming to the end of their fall camp and it seems, from all accounts, the offense is trending in the upward direction.
“Offense is all about unity, guys working together and really proud of our group the way that we’ve grown” explained first-year offensive coordinator Will Stein.
“I’m really proud of where we’re at. We’re not where we need to be just yet but I think we’re trending in that direction.”
Most coaches will tell you coming out of fall camp leading into their first game of the season they’d like a bit more time,…or that extra scrimmage, but Stein says his squad is ready.
“I feel good,” said Stein.
“I think we’ve had a really good fall camp. Guys have really grasped the identity of our offense which starts with running the football,…being physical up front. And guys have been making plays. It’s been really exciting to see our (one) group – one-A, one-B group going out there and playing and doing it how we want it to be done.”
( FALL CAMP ) OREGON OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR WILL STEIN DISCUSSES HIS SQUADS READINESS
MEET SENIOR OFFENSIVE LINEMAN STEVEN JONES
Oregon ( Sr. ) offensive lineman Steven Jones is currently the elder statesman on this Duck football team.
Not just on the O’line, but on the entire team.
Jones,( 6’5 – 340 lbs ) who returns for his sixth season with the Ducks because of the covid year, is now the leader of this young, but talented offensive line.
And being the elder statesman, Jones is relishing his role as a mentor to the younger players and also the tone setter in regards to what the culture should be in a winning program.
“I’m the oldest one here so there’s not a lot of guys left who were part of that team,…part of that program to see what it took to get to the Rose Bowl that year” explained Jones when asked about his growth and carrying on the winning standard of Duck football.
“Being the oldest naturally I think a lot of the guys look up to me to see what the standard is and how to go about the everyday process of being a collegiate athlete. I take pride in that and I’ve been trying to take the most pride in that the whole entire season to make sure everyone else is ready. Not in just my position group, but the whole entire team.”
