In his postgame press briefing Friday evening Oregon head coach Dan Lanning admitted he knew his team would end up in this position.
It wasn’t boastful.
He simply said he knew he had the team to make it to the Pac-12 Championship after losing 36-33 to Washington back on October 14th.
At stake,…a rematch with No. 4 Washington and a chance to make it to the College Football Playoffs.
“I think ultimately every single player in that locker room knew what was in front of us” explained Lanning after the game.
“We knew we wouldn’t get there if we didn’t do a good job of focusing on the task at hand. And that’s really what it’s been about. it’s been about each day,….it’s been about each moment. Tomorrow, it’s not going to be about Washington either,…it’s going to be about the Ducks and what we have to do tomorrow to be better.
So, we kept the focus on us and what’s in front of us and we knew we had to play good teams to get to where we want to be. Again, playing our best ball and what can we do to get better. We talk about a growth mindset in this program. I think we have a bunch of guys that are like, how can I improve,…how can I get better and that showed up tonight.”
