This year’s Rose Bowl Game will be Oregon’s 9th appearance in The Granddaddy of Them All.
Oregon will face the winner of the College Football Playoff’s first-round game between Ohio State and Tennessee.
The first-round game will take place in Columbus, Ohio on December 21 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Ohio State and Tennessee have only played once in their history, the 1996 Florida Citrus Bowl. Tennessee won, 20-14.
Ohio State finished the season ranked No. 6 in the CFP rankings and earned the 8th seed in the Playoff. The Buckeyes were 10-2 on the year with a 6-2 mark in the Big Ten.
Tennessee comes into the postseason with a 10-2 record overall and a 6-2 record in the SEC. The Volunteers are ranked No. 7 in the final CFP rankings and earned the No. 9th seed in the Playoff.
“We look forward to hosting the first-ever College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game,” said Pasadena Tournament of Roses President Ed Morales.
“We are excited to welcome Oregon back to Pasadena for The Granddaddy of Them All and we are eager to see who they will play on New Year’s Day.”
Oregon won the Big Ten Championship in their inaugural season in the conference with a 45-38 victory over Penn State on Saturday night.
The Ducks enter the postseason as the No. 1 overall seed and No. 1-ranked team in the final College Football Playoff rankings. Oregon was the only Football Bowl Subdivision team to finish the season undefeated with a 13-0 mark overall and a 9-0 record in conference play. Oregon has played in eight Rose Bowl Games with a 4-4 record, but the Ducks have won in their last three appearances. The Ducks have an all-time bowl record of 17-20.
