There’s no one harder on himself than Oregon quarterback Tyler Shough.
After the No. 11 Ducks dispatched Stanford last Saturday 35-14, the first thing on Shoughs mind was how can he get better, and by extension, how he can make his team better.
Certainly, the culture Mario Cristobal has created and instilled in his team plays into that mindset, however that drive to be the best started long before Shough arrived in Eugene.
“He’s got the traits you are looking for at quarterback” said former Oregon offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo.
“In regards to command, personality, understanding the game and work ethic,….Tyler has had those since he was a recruit… You can see his physical tools that will enable him to be successful, moving forward.”
And moving forward, Shough himself understands the pursuit of greatness begins with hard work and focus.
“I just think there was a lot of plays left out there’ explained Shough when asked about the areas of improvement he’d like to get better at.
“Specifically, my decision making. We could have had a lot more explosive plays. Obviously, that one interception….trying to force the ball late over the middle. Just trust my feet,…hit the check-down if it’s not there. But honestly, I think we pushed the ball down the field well. We just need to finish it when we’re in the red zone.”
