The carousel of the 2020 college football season took another big turn Monday morning.
After determining the University of Washington (3-1) wouldn’t be able to field a team for Friday’s Pac-12 Championship game in Los Angeles, the conference inserted Oregon (3-2) as the representative of the Northern Division to take on the USC Trojans ( 5-0 ) for the Pac-12 crown.
Just over 24 hours ago, the Pac-12 announced next weekends match-ups which included the Ducks traveling to LA to take on South Division No. 2 seed Colorado on Saturday in the LA Coliseum.
Because the Huskies ended the shortened season with one less loss than the Ducks, UW was automatically tabbed as the winner of the North to take on the Trojans from the South.
STATEMENT FROM THE PAC-12
According to Dennis Dodd of CBS, the Pac-12 gave the University of Washington until today, (Monday) to determine whether or not they could field a team and make the trip south to Los Angeles.
After consultation with the conference, Washington determined they simply wouldn’t be able to field a team for the Championship game on Friday.
All Washington football-related activities have been temporarily suspended since last Wednesday due to Covid-19 virus cases within the program. The suspension of team activities forced the Huskies to also cancel their game with Oregon which was scheduled for this past weekend in Eugene.
The Ducks will now travel to Los Angeles on Thursday in preparation for their championship date with the Trojans. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 pm pacific time kick and will be nationally televised on FOX.
With a win over the Trojans, Oregon will secure its second consecutive Pac-12 title and would likely be placed in the Fiesta Bowl Jan. 2 in Phoenix.
This is the 10th year of the playing of the Pac-12 Football Championship.
