BO NIX TABBED AS PAC-12 SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR – Nix Earns Prestigious Award for Excellence in the Classroom and On the Field

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix was announced as the 2023 Pac-12 Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Friday morning for his success both on the field and in the classroom.

Nix joins UO cross country runner Izzy Thornton-Bott as Ducks to be named Pac-12 Scholar Athletes of the Year already in 2023-24.

Nix becomes the second Oregon football player to earn the honor, joining Justin Herbert (2019).

The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports sponsored by the Pac-12, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes who are standouts both academically and in their respective sports disciplines.

Nix graduated magna cum laude from Auburn in 2021, where he was the starting quarterback from 2019-21. He is currently pursuing a post-graduate degree in public relations at Oregon. Nix was named to the 2022 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll after being named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times while at Auburn.

The Pinson, Ala., native is a finalist for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy, the highest academic honor in college football.

On the field, Nix has led the No. 5 Ducks (11-1, 8-1) to a spot in the 2023 Pac-12 Championship Game against No. 3 Washington on Friday in Las Vegas (5 p.m. PT, ABC).

Nix has put together a Heisman Trophy-worthy season in his final year of eligibility, leading the nation in passing yards per game (325.5) and completion percentage. Nix’s 78.6 completion percentage is on pace to break the NCAA single-season record of 77.4 set by Mac Jones (Alabama) in 2020.

Nix ranks second in the nation this season in passing touchdowns (37), passer rating (189.82), total yards per game (338.8) and total touchdowns (43), and third in total yards per game (9.07). His 315 completions this season have already broken Marcus Mariota’s single-season program record of 304 from 2014, and he is five touchdown passes away from Mariota’s program record of 42.

Nix has thrown just two interceptions while tossing 37 touchdowns, becoming just the fourth FBS player since at least 2000 with at least 35 passing touchdowns and less than three interceptions through 12 games.
